Summer Camp 2010

Posted in Mission Updates 2010 on August 9, 2010 by filerofish

Dear partners in mission,

Thank the Lord, we were able to hold our summer camp this past week. Attendance was lower than expected and we did hit several snags before the event, but God pulled us through somehow and we were able to minister His precious word to children, youth and adults.

Our theme this year was “Re-digging the Wells of Living Water” based on Genesis chapter 26. I had scheduled a special guest speaker from Hermosillo, who was also coming with another 8 young people. They all canceled at the last minute because of financial woes and back-to-school issues, so I was left to deliver three evening messages and 6 morning classes. By the end of the week I was completely drained, so I am still trying to recover from all that.

Miriam, my wife, has been ill with cold-like symptoms for nearly three months now. She was sick before leaving school in May for the summer vacation, and she is still sick now. Even so, she was able to help in the kitchen and with the kids’ classes. Thank God for her dedication. Please keep praying for her.

I will be taking her to the doctor tomorrow for followup.

VBS 2010 A SUCCESS!

Posted in Mission Updates 2010 on August 1, 2010 by filerofish

Thanks to your prayers and to the combined efforts of everyone involved, this year’s VBS was a big success! We are all very exhausted but totally satisfied with the results. Perhaps the best reviews came from the children themselves. Comments like “this was the best VBS ever” were often overheard. Here is the link to the slideshow:

Our teachers were also motivated and encouraged by the participation of the kids. A few of them were quite outstanding indeed. One little boy who made a brief presentation of a chosen mission field, was so eloquent in his speech that he surprised everyone. Later on, we discovered that his mom is a school teacher, so he has a good model to follow at home. I think that he would make a wonderful preacher someday.

At first, we were concerned about the attendance which was lower than last year. However, the  smaller groups were much more manageable and I think that the kids got a lot more out of it.

We wish to thank Adriana and Marina from around the L.A. area who helped with materials and refreshments. We also thank Crossroads Christian Church of Salinas, CA. for their support. You have made it possible for us to plant the Gospel seed in the hearts of Mexican children. GOOD WORK!
